“Nobody told me anything. I figured out myself.”
Laura responded.
“I don’t believe you I am certain that Charles told you. You wouldn’t have known if he didn’t spill the beans.”
“Is there anything bad if he did? Is their a penalty Charles has to pay for that?”
“Nope I am not against him telling you my health status. I just don’t need your pity Laura. You know I don’t.”
“Why haven’t you been taking your drugs Dracole? Not taking your drugs regularly led to this. You wouldn’t have suffered another episode if you had adhere to the doctor’s instructions.”
“Of what use is long life when you live it in fear? Of what use Laura? Moreover taking the drugs dosen’t mean I will be healed. It was late before the blood cancer was detected in my blood streams.”
“But it would have help prolonged your life atleast. What if you had died in there due to your negligence?”
“I was willing to end it all until when you called my name. Look Laura Death dosen’t shock me anymore. I have faced situations worser than death. Two souls murdered a day after the other. The street and the hard drugs. I was introduced to bad vices way too early in life. It was the only way I could survive.”
“I don’t understand. Speak in clear terms Dracole.”
“Laura I can’t say much but I will tell you little.”
Right when Dracole was about going further the nurse came in to tell Laura that her time had long elasped. She had spent forty minutes. The nurse told Laura Dracole needed to rest.
Laura nodded her head and left the room.
Dracole gave her a sheepish look and she smiled at him.
Laura tapped Charles on the shoulder when she went back to the reception. Charles was dozing. His eyes were heavy.
“Hey you sleeping?”
“You just tapped me Laura. What’s up with Dracole? How is he?”
“He is better. We discussed a bit. Do you have an idea of what happened to Dracole in the past? I am worried about him. I fear he’s suffering from depression.”
Charles sighed.
“He is. He’s out finding for love and consolation where he hasn’t planted. Unfortunately you are his victim Laura.”
“I know Dracole’s love for me has turned to an obsession. I am aware of that. However I feel there’s more to his lifestyle. I wish I could help him out. He will find peace if he quits his lifestyle and start things over.”
“You can’t stop Dracole Laura and you know that. Moreover Dracole has committed a lot of crimes to suddenly turn a new leave. Even if he does do you think he’s willing to face the law. You know he won’t Laura. Dracole would rather die than spend the rest of his life behind bars. And what about me Laura? I am in this too. Don’t forget if Dracole goes down I go down too.”
“It’s complicated I know but.”
“No buts lady Dracole can’t quit his lifestyle neither I. It’s not no easy as you think. Dracole and I have stepped deep into the water and it’s no turning back. We’ve got cartels who would hunt for our heads if we mess up. You have no idea about how the street runs things. Anyways let’s quit talking about these things. I am hungry and I believe you are too. Let’s get food outside since we are sleeping over here or what do you think?”
“No problem Charles. To be factual I am extremely famished. I think a plate of jollof rice and a goat pepper soup would be great.”
Laura smirked her lips.
“Foodie.”
Charles teased.
“Can’t kill myself bro. Let’s go already.”
Charles took some money from his pocket and Laura and him went outside to get a food.
Nicodemus’s POV
Regret was an understatement. Nicodemus felt extremely foolish. His mom had assured him she had gotten the best lawyer in the city to intervene in his case that way his imprisonment would not be lengthened.
The penalty given to people who committed the crime Nicodemus had committed was a strict one.
Nicodemus was drooling when the lawyer his mom had hired made him aware of the height of his crime.
He trembled in fear the thought of how the judge would handle his case made him extremely worried.
Guilt overwhelmed his soul when Louis’s helplessness state flashed back into his head. It was too late it was impossible to turn back the hands of time. He wished he had the power to but he couldn’t.
He could only await his trial that way he would know his fate.
The dissapointment on his parent’s face when they found out what he had done couldn’t stop haunting him.
He pondered on what excuse they must have given to Lillian as to why he wasn’t around. The poor girl studies had suffered a lot due to the bad incidences . Even though some thing were kept from Lillian , Nicodemus knew his sister was the smart type. She could see through the lies from her parent’s expression.
Lillian was such a sweet soul he would miss spending time with. He feared she wouldn’t forgive him if she found out what he had done to Louis.
Guilt was eating Nicodemus up day by day. Each time his mom visited he felt bad he had put her through such stress. As for Nicodemus’s father he spent most of his time in the hospital with Louis so he couldn’t visit Nicodemus like his wife does.
At the hideout
Some men with masks on their faces broke into Dracole’s territory. They succeeded in getting rid of the security dogs with the guns in their hands. They fired bullets into the stomach and heads of the security dogs so they could have their way in.
When they were shooting , one of the security dog broke out from it’s chain and attacked one of the men. Blood was oozing out of the man’s leg until One shot treated him. He was deeply injured by the security dog. The man would have died if not for the help of one shot.
After the men had gotten rid of the security dogs they started searching the rooms. They were frustrated when they didn’t see anyone.
One of the men in mask called One shot’s attention to the blood in Dracole’s room. His name was wages while the man that the security dog had injured was called judgement.
The stench of the blood in Dracole’s room was nauseating.
“Only hell knows what happened in here.”
One shot said.
“It looks like a blood shoot out or what do you think boss?”
One of the men in mask asked.
“Not really I doubt so. If it was a blood shoot out not only Dracole’s room would have been messed up. Maybe Dracole already knew of boss intentions and he ran way. Preharps this is just a cover up so boss would be distracted.”
One shot pointed at the floor.
Sniper removed the mask from his face and spoke impulsively.
“Who leaves an hideout without his belongings boss? If Dracole had left here already there wouldn’t be his luggage here. He wouldn’t want to incriminate himself Nah Dracole is way too smart for that. The only way we can know what happened in here is if we search deeper to see if we could get a CCTV camera or a piece of shit that could link us to something. I would have suggested we ask the people in the neighborhood what had happened in here but that would make us known. Moreover it’s a waste of time because am sure Dracole must have buy his way into their heart.”
“Good one sniper. Judgement and wage let’s search deeper am sure we will get something that would lead us to Dracole’s whereabout. Sniper stay on guard.”
One shot ordered and the men got into action.
