???????? The Other Woman Episode Nineteen:
Amarachi sent Nkem a text message, to inform her that mama had regained consciousness, and that she had known who pulled the stunt, but asked her to please expect mama in her house soon.
Mama seemed very happy to see Amarachi, and was looking at Joe with so much distaste, certainly feeling very bad that Joe didn’t want her happiness.
Farida was feeling very uncomfortable as she stood besides Joe, looking listlessly away, to keep her from running out of the room.
She picked up her phone, and sent her mother a text message, to inform her that the old woman was awake, and she had requested her daughter to sit besides her, because she had something important to tell her.
“I’m about to go crรฃzy. I don’t know what will happen to me, if that woman tells Joe everything” Farida wrote in her second message to her mother.
Mandy was sitting besides a swimming pool, waiting for a call to inform her of the passing of the old woman. She was sipping an expensive wine, looking very akward to be seen by a pool, that early in the day.
When she heard the beep on her phone she knew it had to be news about the old woman, and yes it was!
Just not the kind of news she was expecting! She read the message again, and again and almost went mร d.
โHow can she be alive? Didnโt that guy tell me he did what I asked him to do? That was an overdose of the sleeping stuff, and she was supposed to have slept forever with that amount of it placed besides her nose for a period of time. How did she survive it? Does this woman have nine lives?โ she wondered, getting up so quickly, she almost lost her balance.
She tried to call Ben, but he was out of reach, even though she tried over a thousand times, the response was same.
Mandy picked up her handbag, and without bothering about changing into an appropriate outfit, rushed into her car, and drove off to get something she knew she needed to help rescue her daughter, if the woman had already started talking.
Meanwhile, Joe and everyone else in the hospital room expected that mama was going to talk about the person that attรฃcked her, and while Farida was fidgeting, looking for reasons to step out, mama announced cheerily to Amarachi that Nkem was pregnant.
โI donโt know why Joe brought me here and had these people stand guard over me as if Iโve lost my mind, but Iโm telling you Amara, that woman is pregnant after so many years.
โI am going to have two grandchildren from Joeโs lineage very soon.
โBoth Farida and Nkem are pregnant, and any moment from now, Iโll be having the two pregnant wives at home because, whether Joe likes it or not, I’m going to aee to it, that Nkem returns home.
โHe may think that Iโm insร ne because Iโm insisting that he brings his first wife home, and even imagines that sheโs not truly pregnant, but if he doesnโt bring his wife home, Iโm going to show him, how insร ne a woman despรชrate to have all her grandchildren in her sonโs house behavesโ she told Amarachi.
Mandy had just rushed into the room with a substance in her hand, ready to blow the woman and everyone else unconscious, before she heard the woman talk.
โThanks goodness! Mama is safe and wellโ Mandy said, being the first to realize that mama had lost memory of the events that occurred after the beร ting she gave her in Joeโs house.
โYes my in-law. I am well, and would be better if you join hands to talk to my son about bringing back your friend.
โShe told me she was pregnant, and I saw her before she left. Nkem is really pregnant, but Joe thinks Iโm mร dโ mama told Mandy.
Farida nearly collapsed, realizing that she had been holding her breath for too long.
โItโs okay mama, Nkem is in my brotherโs house, just another one, and she wants you to come stay with her.
โI have told Joe about it, and he has no objections. Heโd be living in the two houses, since he is now fully a polygamous man.
โSo you donโt have to worry. The only reason she doesnโt want to return to the main house is because she now realizes that Faridaโs pregnancy, blessed her with hers, so she wants to give Farida the respect of being the one in the main houseโ Amarachi said, looking at her brother in a way that told him, that he dared not counter what she had just said.
A doctor soon arrived to take a look at the now conscious old woman, and had to send everyone out of the room.
He assessed mama, and realized that she had partial ร mnesia, but everything else was perfect with her.
โEngr. Joe, would you please come with me to my office? I need to speak with youโ the doctor said, walking ahead of Joe, and Amarachi, who chose to hear what the doctor had to say too.
When they approached the doctorโs office, the Doctor looked at Amarachi and then at Joe, as though to ask, โcan I talk with her here?โ
Joe nodded and told him to go ahead.
โAmarachi is my sister, and Iโm sure she deserves to get first hand information about her mother tooโ Joe said, sitting down and making room for his sister to sit.
โOkay. If you say so, then I must tell you everything about our findings now.
โYour mother had some major concussions on her head, and it seems to me that the attร ck was more like a vengรจful and or intentional one
โWhoever attรฃcked her, has a good knowledge of where to hit, to get the woman kรฏlled.
โShe survived the attร ck by a special kind of miracle, but the attร cker had to finish her off, getting into her room to mess with the ventilator. Something tells me the attร cker is someone close to her, someone that would be given access to her without questioning
โIt still appears like a speculation and a conspirร cy theory, but I think itโs too much of a coincidence that she was attรฃcked when you werenโt at home.
โGot attacked again in the hospital, when you were also away, and we couldnโt lay hands on the CCTV footages.
โOf all times, the footages had to get glitched, leaving us with nothing but assumptions.
โAnd now, the old woman is too afraid to remember, she has developed a partial ร mnesia, shutting out everything that happened after the attร ck.
โShe doesnโt even want to remember that she was attรฃcked. And so, for her mental health, I have a few suggestions.
โKeep her away from the people she was with, before the attร ck. They may know something about this attร ckโฆโ the doctor was still saying
โOh please donโt give me that. My mother was at home, and with my wife and her mother before the unfortunate incidence.
โThey have both been worried, and praying for my mother to wake up. Mandy was even so worried about my mother, she didnโt care about her relationship with Nkemโ Joe interjected.
โJoe my friend, you have to know that most times, the ones who griรจve the most, are the ones who kรฏlled the victรฎm!
โI havenโt said she is the guilty one here, I have no parameter to determine that yet, but the thing is, the old woman would need to stay away from your house, the site of the attร ck, until she gradually decides to remember.
โKeeping her in your house, will no doubt make her forcibly recall, and there may be adverse effects
โSo for security and medical reasons, I suggest you allow her stay with either of your siblings for nowโ the doctor concluded.
Joe thanked him, and since they didnโt have a way to tell who had attรฃcked his mother in the hospital, they had to let the sleeping dog lie, taking solace in the fact that God preserved the old woman, and hoping that she’d be able to tell them what they needed to know, when she recovered.
Before Amarachi and her brother stepped out however, Amarachi made Joe sweร r by their fatherโs grave that he was going to tell his two wives that mama had a complete memory loss.
Joe argued at first, but decided to accept her suggestion. He didnโt have anything to lose by telling Farida and Mandy that the amnesia was a permanent one.
He knew that sending mama to Amarachiโs house was almost impossible. She was workaholic that travelled every now and then, and if the doctor had said mama couldnโt stay in his house, then he was in a big mess.
They were still arguing about where to keep mama, when they reached Mandy and Faridaโs sides.
โJoe, mama thinks Nkem is pregnant and Iโm sure staying with her will be therapeutic for her.
โBesides, since sheโs the major suspect for this crรฌme, I think itโs safer to let her stay with mama.
โYou know the rule about letting a thiรจf be the one who keeps what you donโt want stolen.
โNkem wouldnโt dare make any moves again, when she knows thereโs no one to take the blames but herself.
โAnd since Mama being in your house may force her to remember what sheโs trying to forget, I think itโs best you keep her from rememberingโ Amarachi argued, and as soon as Mandy heard the last part, she began to nod like an agama lizard.
โSheโs right Joe. You allow mama stay with Nkem, and visit mama when you can, that way, she can assume youโre responsible for Nkemโs pregnancy and remain happyโ Mandy said, intentionally throwing in the last part, for Amarachi’s ears.
Farida began to complain about how she was going to miss mama, and how she was going to be so lonely.
โDon’t worry my dear, now that I know youโre pregnant Farida, Iโll visit you as often as I canโ Amarachi volunteered, making the mother and daughter stutter in panic.
โYou donโt need to worry yourself about this girl. She complains too much. How can she make you leave your busy schedule to visit her, when Iโm available to take care of her?โ Mandy said, sweating in her palms.
Mama was soon discharged, and Mandy and her daughter got into her car to drive home, while Joe drive mama and Amarachi to Nkemโs house.
โWhat is he doing here?โ Nkem asked ร ngrily, as soon as she saw Joe at her doorstep with mama and Amarachi.
โItโs okay my daughter, please let me in, would you?โ mama asked Nkem, making it impossible for her to say any other word.
Joe was feeling very ร ngry with himself for agreeing with his sister to bring their mother to stay with a woman, dรชspicable enough to get pregnant for another, and still looks at him in the face, without shร me.
His motherโs health mattered so much to him, so he knew he could sacrifice anything to see her get better, but something about the way his sister was relating with Nkem, made him feel there was more to what was going on.
“Why do I feel that there’s something you’re not telling me?” He asked his sister as she walked him to his car.
“Actually, there are a whole lot brother, I will tell you everything in good time. In the mean time, you may want to begin to think of your apology lines.
“You married her, so you must be the one who knows how to get her to forgive you, because what I’ll be telling you is why you will apologize with a running nose, not how to apologize. And if you have a single care about Mama’s life, you’ll keep what I told you to yourself” she told him, and walked away
Joe thought she was behaving strangely, but he knew he had to be carrful not to make a mistake. He got into his car, and drove home
