???????? The Other Woman Episode Fifteen:
Jackie saw Joe’s eyes turn red with indignation and noticed the moment he moved, charging towards Nkem and knew what was about to go down.
She got up from the ground quickly and as soon as Nkem stood up, Jackie saw Joe’s hand move in a flash, sending a slàp to Nkem.
Nkem managed to dodge the first slap and when Joe sent the second one, Jackie was already positioned between them, blocking the slaps that followed from reaching Nkem.
By the time Joe realized that none of the slaps had touched Nkem, because of the fact that Jackie had been blocking the slaps with her handbag. He became so enraged that he could have expended his frustràtion on Jackie, the one who prevented his hands from touching Nkem, but the doctor and nurses had already rushed to hold him down.
“You can’t let them go Joe. These two êvïl women who could work hand in hand to kïll mama cannot be left to go. You must get them arrested at once
“Oh mama! It’s so painful she had to dië this way Joe. And as her in-law, I’m going to ensure that her Killers don’t go free, whether you agree to do the needful or not” Mandy lamented.
“It’s okay ma’am, you can calm down. The old woman is lucky enough to have got help as promptly as she did.
“Who ever it is that tried to kïll mama, messed with the ventilator, ensuring that she wasn’t getting oxygen.
“She would have died of asphyxiation if we hadn’t arrived the very minute we did, to get the ventilator helping her lungs with both oxygenation and ventilation again.
“The oxygen supply was tampered with, so her lungs were out of oxygen supply, and her brain would have shut down after a few more minutes if that bell hadn’t called our attention.
“But right now, she’s stable, and would be okay pretty soon. She only passed out now because of the stress her experience placed on her brain” the doctor explained.
Joe’s eyes flew open in delightful surprise as he heard what the doctor said and he rushed to the bed at once.
“Forget about the arrest Mandy, I’ll do the needful after my mother gets out of this place. She’ll tell me why Nkem wanted to kïll her, even when she had been advocating for her, in recent times.
“I’ll stay here with Farida until mama wake up, and I’ll be able to talk to her, and know exactly what happened” Joe said
“Calm down Sir, you’re going to have to calm down. For now, we’ll need to place mama under strict surveillance and monitoring.
“She may not be able to cope with another dilemma if something goes wrong again, so we have to be sure that whoever it was that made that bad move against this woman, won’t be able to have access to her again.
“I don’t know what is going on in your family right now, but as your family doctor, I’m going to advise that you keep your two wives and every other relative away from here for now” the doctor told Joe before he asked everyone but Joe to step out of the room.
Nkem walked out of the room glad to know that her quick intervention had saved Mama’s life. She was in tears as she reminded Jackie that she was right about deciding to visit the hospital immediately.
“I told you Jackie! I told you to allow me visit the old woman. Just imagine what would have happened if I hadn’t arrived when I did?
“So Mandy really wanted to kïll Mama? And to think that she had the audacity to ask Joe to arrest us, wishing the old woman deåd already” Nkem told her friend.
“You’re so right about your premonitions that made you want so bãdly to visit mama, but the fact that the woman could have been kïlled today, brings me to wonder if the one who wanted to kïll her, had a hand in what happened to her, that brought her to the hospital in the first place.
“Coukd that röbbery have been staged? And if what I’m thinking is what it is, then Mandy is up to no good” Jackie said.
“Erm, I’m trying to understand what you’re saying, the dots aren’t connecting rightly though, because if Mandy tried to kïll mama earlier, it could mean that she was trying to keep her out of her way or to keep her from saying something.
“So what could she be trying to keep mama from saying? They have never been close, so I know mama won’t be having any secrets she’d love to keep hidden” Nkem noted.
“I’m thinking of two possibilities, mama found out about something she doesn’t want Joe to hear about, something like everything about how you two arranged to get Farida in his room that night, or because Mama is still trying to keep Martha with Joe, making her see the woman as a threàt to her hopes of taking over everything” Jackie said.
“But what will she lose if Joe knows we arranged Farida for him? Wouldn’t it only get Joe more angry at me?” Nkem asked.
“It would, but it would also make Joe lose trust for Farida and Mandy” Jackie said.
“Whatever it is Jackie, I’m so glad that we were able to save mama. And thank you Jackie, I may have had to save the old woman at a very terrible cost.
“If you hadn’t been there, then Joe would have surely made me lose this pregnancy with his sènseless outburst” Nkem said.
“It’s okay my dear. I just had to do what I could because I knew the chances of running into that despêrado was very high.
“And knowing how màd she must be to know that you’re pregnant now, I expected that she could try to get physical with you.
“What I didn’t expect was that Joe could be so màd he’d want to hit you. So I had to do all I could to ensure he didn’t hit you for real because I know for sure that getting you to forgive him and accept him back when the time comes, would be hard if he hit you” Jackie said as they walked towards their car.
“Don’t make laugh Jackie, Joe and I are history already. I’m never ever going to get back with him again. I’m so done with him” Nkem said with a frown
“Keep deceiving yourself Nkem, keep letting the lie Mandy wants you to believe grow in your heart, when you know you won’t ever be thrown away from your home forever.
“You and I know that Joe can’t be blamed for all he has done so far because you orchestrated everything that is going on.
“I do not want to keep blaming you for it, but there’s no one who wouldn’t have seen the desperåtion in Mandy as she urged you to get her daughter in bed with your husband.
“I tried to warn you, but I guess the human nature that makes it hard for us to recognize when we’re just one strike away from breaking the heavy log we’ve been cutting for so long, didn’t let you hold on a little longer.
“And so my dear friend, it’ll be in your interest to remember that you fetched the ant infested wood into your house yourself, and you have absolutely no right to blame the precious wood in your house for getting eaten by the ants.
“Joe is a man, and we both know that he never had any other experience with any woman before he married you.
“He had been faithful to you these past twenty years and since he neither knows how to play the double game, nor had any sèxual dating experience with a much younger girl before, the ecstasy of the new experience is bound to make him carried away!
“Farida is a very beautiful and young girl, I don’t know what you were thinking of when you imagined that things would ever be the same after he had a feel of what it means for a man to be with a girl with both youthful body and moves.
“Please purge your heart of all the bitterness against him, and understand that things wouldn’t have been this messy, if you hadn’t done what you did” Jackie told her friend as they sat in the car.
“Well, I never looked at it in that light. But even at that, did he have to get so vïolënt with me? He could have hit me real bad if you hadn’t saved the day
“He didn’t even remember it was me, the very same one he said he could dïe for, when he was aiming to hit me as much as he wanted to” Nkem complained.
“My friend, you seem to have forgotten that in his eyes back there, you were trying to kïll his mother when he arrived!
“From his own point of view, his mother was already deåd, and Nkem, if you were in his shoes, you’d want to also stranglè the person that supposedly killêd your mother” Jackie said.
“Whatever it is Jackie, I’m glad that I was able to save mama, and I’m super grateful that you saved me from losing the one thing that matters to me, while I was at it.
”Shall we go home already? I’m famished” Nkem said and Jackie smiled at her, started the car, and pulled out of the parking lot.
The friends drove towards Jackie’s house where Nkem had a really nice meal, before she got driven back to her house in the evening
