A father overheard his 10-year-old daughter talking to her friend about how she hated wolves with a passion. The following day, he asked her.
“What’s the reason you hate wolves so much?”
The young girl responded.
“Firstly, wolves are dangerous animals that have the potential to kill humans. Secondly, they are strongly associated with greed and destruction. And thirdly, they are evil”
Her father was amazed, and he asked.
“And how do you know about that?”
“I heard and read from books” she replied.
“But do you just believe everything you hear about things?” he asked.
“No dad, but that’s a fact” she said. Her father ended the conversation.
Few days to the young girl’s 11th birthday, her father asked her.
“What do you want as a birthday present? You can choose a pet”
“I want a puppy. Dogs are my favorite people” she uttered.
“Do you promise to take good care of it?”
“I promise, Dad”
On her birthday, her father brought home the little furry animal. The young girl was very excited about her new pet she named Coco. She showered it with so much love and affection, and they developed a special bond of friendship. A bond that grew with every passing day.
3 Years later, the father called his daughter who had turned 14. He asked her.
“Do you still remember the conversation we had 3 years ago, when you told me why you hated wolves with a passion?”
“Yes dad” she responded. Then her father said.
“Well, I wanted to make you understand something about life, that was why I made you raise a wolf for 3 years”
The girl was shocked. Her father continued.
“I know this will shock you, but 3 years ago when you asked for a puppy, I intentionally got you a baby wolf and made you believe it was a dog. You called it Coco. I have watched your bond with Coco grew and grew everyday. The same animal you hate so much, turned out to be your best friend”
Her father then patted her shoulders, smiled at her, and said.
“It took me 3 good years to teach you a very important lesson about life. We should never hate people simply because of what we’ve heard about them, or because others hate them. There’s a story behind everyone and there’s a reason why people are the way they are.
So you must never judge anyone before you get to meet them. Sometimes, love is the only thing people need to become better people. Just like the wolf, you have loved it with all your heart, and never once did it harm you”
