???????? The Choice I Made Episode Twelve:
Preye is this you? So, you are still alive? Preye’s mother asked as she regained consciousness.
Mama, I’m alive. Why will you be thinking I’m dead? Preye who doesn’t know the news of her death has gone around the village asked.
Ibiso was still seated watching Preye and her mother asked each question. She stood up and walked closer to Preye’s mother and touched her head to know the condition of her body temperature.
Ma, my name is Ibiso Dokubo. I’m from River State Buguma precisely. I would have loved to stay for a while and get myself properly introduced but the driver is waiting for me. I have to get to Port Harcourt today. I will come back for us to spend time together but Ma, this is Preye your daughter. Nothing has happened to her. Don’t fall again she is back for you alive and sound. Let me be on my way now I will also keep in touch. Ibiso said.
Preye accompanied her to the car and they had a brief discussion. Preye saw a whole lot of changes on Victory’s body and the new bicycle he was sitting on. She decided not to talk about it until her mother fully get herself.
Vic boy, how are you? Preye asked Victory who is busy calling her Pa, Pa (Papa) because that is what he calls everybody except her grandmother who calls ma(mama).
Later the next day. Preye’s mother told Preye she was told she was shot dead by unidentified men.
So, Mama, you thought you saw a ghost yesterday when I came back? Preye asked her mother.
Yes, that was what I thought my daughter. Preye’s Mother answered.
Why didn’t you run since you thought I was a ghost? Preye continues her funny questions.
As old as I am I will run from a ghost of my daughter I carried for nine months? It is not possible and my daughter is not a ghost. I will not bury you you are the one that will bury me.
Mama if it’s me I will run oh nothing anything body will tell me. Preye said.
You are still a child. When you grow up life and experience will teach you better and prepare you to face some things. The mother explains
Mama, how come about all these expensive toys and things for Victory? How did you do that? Do you now spend all your savings on him? Preye asked pitifully.
My dear, a lot has happened when you were away. Do you see this God? He works mysteriously. He sent an Angel in a human form to me and Victory. When I waited for your call I didn’t see it. I felt something was not right. I remembered you told me about Dagogo, Blessing’s sister who works at the Assiri construction site. I went to know if I will get your contact or her sister’s. That was where I met his boss who is so kind and generous. After hearing my story he took it upon himself to make sure I and Victory never lack anything. He comes here every day. In the morning he will come and stays till evening. What is remaining is for him to sleep here. You would have seen him yesterday or today here but he traveled. Don’t you hear Victory call Pa(Papa)? He’s the one Victory is calling.
Hmmm, okay oh when he comes back I will see him and also thank him for his kind gesture. Preye said.
Preye, what happened to you? You have been asking me questions I think it’s now my turn to know what happened to you over there. Preye’s mother asked.
Preye started crying. She couldn’t raise her face anymore because she knew what landed her in all the pains and torture she went through is disobedience. She knew she went against her mother’s wish but her mother is not ready to portion blame on her. She told her how everything happened in Nengi’s house and the work they do.
Mama, I almost died. That midnight Nengi’s chased me out of her house. Already Blessing has informed me of Nengi’s plans, that she will kill me. There are bunches of curvey flowers planted close to the fence for the beautification of the house. Mama that was where I entered immediately I opened the gate and lay down. Ferdinand, Nengi’s security who was supposed to shoot me to death came out and went down the street thinking I took the same direction. I heard a gunshot down the street but I didn’t know who he killed thinking it was me. A few minutes later he came back and entered the compound. Mama as I was there ants bit me beyond recognition. But I know it was God that closed my mouth from shouting and making me weak at that moment. I stayed there till around 6 a.m. That was when I summoned the strength and stood up and left. My eyes were swollen and almost closing, and my nose and ears were also affected by the bite from the ants. I managed to leave Nengi’s estate to the road. I failed. I woke up in a hospital I didn’t know how I got there. The hospital took care of me. It was when I recovered I was told I was brought to the hospital by a man who said he was coming but didn’t show up again. The big hospital is owned by Aunty Ibiso. The lady that brought me home. I told her my story she believed and trusted me and took me in. She is a mother of two girls and her children are studying medicine abroad.
God of a widow! Preye’s mother cried out. What of Blessing, is she still comfortable with what she does over there?
Mama, Blessing, and the rest of the girls have gone to prison and Nengi is dead. It was said she died of a fire explosion in her house.
Oh, Tamuno! My fellow women’s nine months! What will their mothers do? Preye’s mother cries.
But Mama, I didn’t come back with anything. I’m empty-handed. Those things we bought for you and Victory It was Aunty Ibiso and she promised to send me something. Preye shamefully said.
Hey!! Don’t say! I’m not expecting kobo from you. That you are alive is more than what money can’t buy. thank God you are still alive for me. That’s all that matters to me. Preyes Mother said.
Thank you, mama… Mama, how is Mama Boma? Preye asked.
What will I do without Mama Boma? She always comes here to check if I and Victory are still alive. I’m the one that told her to stop coming because her legs now disturb her badly and she’s finding it difficult to walk. I do go there to see her even today I will still go.
I will go with you when you are going… Mama, where did you keep your it ringing? Preye said
Ewui! I kept it on top of the kitchen zinc ooo. Mama Preye ran and picked her call while Preye went to push Victory around on his bicycle.
Preye, it was Godwin that called me oh. He said he’s coming back tomorrow and he will be here tomorrow. I didn’t tell him the good news that you have returned. Mama Preye happily said.
Mama, who is Godwin again? Preye asked because the name rings a bell.
The man I told you about that was helping me and Victory. he’s name is Godwin. Preye’s mother said.
His name is Godwin too? Preye ask.
