“Oh God, I don’t want to live! No, there’s no point of living on. How could Brad do this to me? How could he render me completely use less to myself and my family?” Sophia cried as she sat on the couch in Jovani’s house.
She had been crying since they left Chief Jonah’s residence. And even though she had insisted on going home, Jovani had taken her to his house because he didn’t want her mother seeing her in that condition.
He had been talking to her since they got to his house, he had been begging her, trying to make her see she hadn’t reached the ends of the world, but she was too lost in her grief to know that Jovani was more hurt by the revelation than her, and was only being strong for her sake.
“Oh please stop being si!ly. You know as much as I do that I won’t let you go anywhere without me. You’re the woman for me, and like I said earlier, if you accept me today, you’ll officially be my wife this very same day.
“And if Brad is able to make you think of leaving me here on earth, you must be joking because I’ll chase you to the afterlife and still make you my wife.
“I told you Sophia, I love you unconditionally. I love you like I love myself. And can’t you see? I’ve made mistakes in the past, I’ve done things I shouldn’t have done.
“Did I throw myself away? Did I reject myself because I made mistakes? Of course no!
“So, if I love you as myself, I won’t throw you away because things are like this now. All I would be concerned about now is how to get back on my feet, if I were you. Please cheer up Sophia, this man here loves you unconditionally” he told her, hugging her warmly.
“Jovani, you deserve someone better! Please let me go and bear the consequences of my disobedience and lack of self control myself. You don’t deserve to be with a woman who you can’t bear children with” Sophia cried
“And I have said it before, I’m not staying anywhere you’re not. If you wish to not dië, go ahead and dïe, but just remember that you’re the one who will make my parents lose their only son” Jovani said angrily, tir d of telling her the same thing, over again
“Don’t be like this Jovani, how am I supposed to let you disobey your parents when I know how right they are? How am I supposed to allow you marry me and face the troubles that go with trying to conceive? Please Jovani, you’ve got to let me go” she told him.
“Okay, I agree with you! I’ll let you go, but you have to kiss me goodbye” he told her, pulling her up in a way he had never done before. His mouth was soon kissing her with so much fierceness, she could tell the passion was laced with ãnger.
Sophia was still crying when he began to kiss her, but the more he deepened the kiss, the more she melted in to him, and the more she leaned on him, the more the urge to do what he had always wanted to do, grew in him.
“What are you doing? What is wrong with you Jovani?” she asked in fright as he pulled her with him towards the stairs.
As soon as they got to the base of the staircase, Jovani swept Sophia off her feet and carried her all the way to his bedroom.
“Stop this Jovani, please stop this at once” Sophia cried as Jovani threw her on the bed and began to tear his shirt off his body, while he remained firmly positioned above her.
“No Sophia, you’ve !nsulted me enough. You heard it when Kelly said you have a two percent chance of getting pregnant and you’re saying I won’t be fertile enough to make you bear children with that huge chances of getting pregnant!
“And that’s because I’ve allowed our relationship go on for so long without showing you what I can do, so I’m going to get you pregnant now to show you that you can get pregnant, then I’ll wed you tomorrow” Jovani said, throwing away the last clothing article on his upper body.
“Please Jovani, don’t do this, please I’m begging you. You’re going to hurt me and make me assume you’re a bahd person too. Please stop this now.
“I’m sorry I ever mentioned leaving you when I know even I, can’t stay without you, but please don’t go the wrong way because I have been grieving wrongly” Sophia said, tears rolling down her face.
Jovani was already kissing her everywhere, his hands hovering over everywhere. But when he returned to kiss her lips, he saw her face covered in tears as she lay still, like a lamb waiting to be slàughtered.
“This isn’t the way I want you Sophia, no! It’s definitely not the way I want to have you” he thought and rolled off her body in an instant, walking out of the room in ãnger.
He was angry with Brad for having spoilt things before he found the woman of his dreams, but was more àngry with himself for almost forcing himself on Sophia because he was màd!
Sophia cried for a long time, and when she didn’t see Jovani return to the room, she went in search of him.
She found Jovani in the sitting room, rolling a box in his hand. He was throwing it up and down, looking so depressed and hurt.
“Today was meant to be a happy day in my life. It’s a day I was meant to take a step towards getting you to stay with me forever.
“But Kelly decided to push his nose in places he wasn’t wanted. He decided to give news no one asked him for, just to thwart my plans and ruin my life.
“Then, I was hoping, I was thinking and wishing that you’d love me enough to take the chances with me.
“I was imagining that you would remember that only God determines who can or cannot get pregnant, but you have chosen to be the one who shatters my heart. You have chosen to be the one who deals the final blow that will make me wish I d!ed the day Clara left me
“I’m going to try all the same. I’m going to give you this box, even though we couldn’t drive to the five star hotel where I had booked a table for us for this night.
“I’ll give you this box, even though I do not know what you’ll do with its content. I have to give it to you all the same because I won’t want to see it anywhere around when you walk out the door with a goodbye.
“So Sophia, take this box, keep it with you, and if you ever decide, if you ever change your mind, please open the box and get the ring on your finger, and I’ll be wedding you the next instant” Jovani said, tears rolling down his handsome face, as he knelt before Sophia.
Sophia stood flabbergasted, looking at him and the box in his hands. She had her right hand over her mouth, trying to suppress the scream that was about to find it’s way out.
“Oh, you don’t want to hold the box too? You don’t wish to keep it with the hopes that you’ll change your mind and say yes?” he asked, opening the box.
Sophia fell on her knees besides him and made to speak, but he shook his head, asking her not to say a thing. Instead, he pulled the ring out and looked at her again.
Their eyes met, their hearts connected, and their souls merged. They could both tell when the other exhaled, for while their hearts remained connected, speaking and assuring each other of their endless Love, they seemed to keep forgetting to breathe.
Sophia’s heart began to beat so rapidly as she found her hand moving on it’s own accord, until her perfectly manicured fingers were right in front of him, waiting for his ring.
Jovani slid the ring in her index finger, with his shaky hands. His whole body was so overwhelmed by the turn of events that even after wearing her the ring, he was still afraid that she may get up and run away.
“I love you Jovani” he heard her saying, bringing him back from the far away places his heart had travelled to, and he realized that he had been hugging her a little too hard, after he wore her the ring.
“I love you more, my woman, and I’ll spend eternity, showing you what it means to be loved” he said emotionally, before he began to kiss her again.
