Ozonge and Tafeko continued to battle within the shrine, with Ozonge being more on the defensive.
Tafeko’s rage was getting the best of him, and Ozonge seemed to really be proûd of himself, for having known just how to get him as aggravated as he now had him.
His wife was still searching for something that could help her husband, so while she raced around the shrine, she remained as quiet as she could be, happy with the fact that Ozonge imagined that she had run away for fear of getting caught in the line of fire.
He even thought she ran away because of shàme, and chose to taunt Tafeko with it. She had heard Ozonge laughing cynically, as he môcked her husband.
“Hey hey hey!!! Take it easy with the temper. I know it’s not easy for you to have stood there and witnessed me give it so hard to your wife, when you know your little, frail and never fully charged propagator won’t ever be able to make her möan and cry like she was doing.

He kept charging at Ozonge, missing at every turn and getting more furious as a result.
Tafeko’s wife approached the shrine stealthily, wishing to take her pound of flesh.
Her anger for what Ozonge had done to her, and the pàins of the possibility of having his cursed seed implanted in her, since she was in that period of the month, when she was able to conceive, fueled her indignation and her resoluteness to put Ozonge off.
She aimed at him with the big stick she was able to find, hitting him squarely on the nape of his neck.
Ozonge fell flat, blacking out immediately as Tafeko stood over him with his sword drawn.
While Tafeko and Ozonge battled in the forest, Tracy and Bruce were getting ready to return to her parents’ compound.
Bruce wished he could stay longer with her there, not having to worry about anything, but he knew that he needed to return to Porthacourt and resume work, because he wasn’t actually on an official permission for a honeymoon.
After he checked into the hotel bthat first night, he called Drake his friend and filled him in on some of the things going on with him, carefully filtering out the part that had to do with him battling in the forest with some wïtch doctor.
“But how could you just go ahead and marry that girl Bruce? I thought you would have seen the need be in sync with your mother before you go ahead to embark on that kind of journey” Drake asked him.
“Drake, do as I have asked you. Please tell the general manager that I was involved in a minor home accîdent, and then I’ll be able to tell you all that you want to hear, when I return” Bruce told his friend.
“And what if I don’t wish to do that? What if I’m not interested in telling a lie just because you wish to do the very thing, we have all asked you not to do?” Drake asked him.
“Then I’ll hang up and focus on making my wife happy, doing my bit to fulfill her fantasies, and maybe, just maybe, when I return to Porthacourt, she’ll be registering in an antenatal clinic, while I register in a jobseeker’s platform” Bruce replied gogood-naturedly
“I don’t know why I even care” was all Drake said, before he hung up. And Bruce smiled, got back to his wife, but needed to get back to work, and take his wife to the luxury and comfort he had always promised her.
Tracy was worried about how her mother would react to the news of her escape from the shrine before the rituàl was completed, and she told Bruce about her concerns.
“Relax babe, I will be the one she blames for whatever happened because I got you out of the shrine after all” Bruce said.
“I’m not talking about who gets blamed Bruce. I’m worried about what she’d do when I get home.
“What if she asks me to return to the shrine? What if she is adamant about me going back to the shrine?” Tracy asked Bruce.
“Then we’ll have no option but to tell her the truth about what the wïtch doctor wanted to do with you.
“Yes! We’ll expose the fake, and make your mother and anyone who cares to listen, know how terrible that crude man is” Bruce said.
“Erm Bruce, I think this is where I need to tell you that my mother is well aware of everything.
“She knew that the cûrsed man was meant to deflower me, get a cursed child implanted in me, to take away the tôrments of Uloma, and transfer same to the next generation.
“It has been going on for so many generations, and my mother most probably, knew that he was going to make the attempt on me.
“There are a lot of things I found out in that shrine. A lot of startling revelations, but you asked me to keep the talks about it to when we get home
“Bruce, my mum is going to insist that I return to the shrine, because for her to have allowed me to go there, after trying so hard to keep me away from doing so initially, it means she has already given in, and feels that’s the only way to save me” Tracy lamented.
“My love, she wouldn’t do it! And even if she tries to, it will boil down to me letting her know that you’re my wife, and not my fiancé anymore.
“You’re her daughter, but you’re now part of another family. I will try to make her see reasons with us, but you will have to stand firm and let her know what you want to do.
“And that is to return with me to Porthacourt to enable me resumes work, and have a doctor take a look at these wounds on my back, they’re kind of looking infected now” Bruce said, and got Tracy nodding in agreement.
They got into the ride Bruce ordered and were soon on their way to Chief Scot’s compound.

Bruce and Tracy looked at each other, realizing that not only had the chief priest not made appearance to inform them that she was no longer in the shrine, her father had not also told her about the payment of the bride price
