I never imagined that some people in this whole wide world will be so heartless, ungrateful, and even uncharitable to what people do for them.
Now he has started bearing the consequences in the police custody, no wonder he had to send his sister to come and apologize his behalf.
I went into the kitchen to prepare some vegetable salad and beef, when my bestie walked in. I was surprised seeing her inside the kitchen.
“Oh my gosh! When exactly did you come in?”, I asked smiling.
“It’s has been about an hour, ever since I stood out there waiting for you to tell me to come in”, Evelyn said.
“Oops! I’m really sorry about that. I didn’t even hear when the door buzzer rang”, I responded.
She told me never to bother about that. She quickly dropped her hand bag and joined me in what I was doing.
We both finished preparing the vegetable salad and beef roll, and then we returned to the dinning table to feed ourselves.
The food was dished into two plates, the first one contained the vegetable salad and the next one was the one of beef roll.
The aura of Jeremy’s sister apology was still replaying in my memory. I wasn’t being myself through out the meal. I didn’t know that Evelyn had been observing me all this while.
“What are you thinking about bestie? Tell me what the hell is bothering you”, she inquired still staring at me with expectancy.
“I’m just being confused here. I don’t know if what am thinking is true”, I responded.
“OMG! I know you won’t stop nagging about Drake. I don’t even know what exactly you saw in this Drake that makes him so special to you”, she cajoled.
“Nope bestie, what the bloody hell are you insinuating about? You didn’t even hear from me to know what my ordeal is all about and you have already summarized it”, I replied angrily.
“Oh no! Please am sorry about that bestie. So what really is your problem?”, she said faking a smile.
I didn’t tell her anything until we left the dinning table to the living room.
“Why aren’t you saying anything to me? Are you still angry with me?”, she inquired.
“I’m not, I just wanna wait till we finish eating the food before I continue”, I enunciated.
“So what is the problem all about?”, she asked me again.
“It was yesterday evening, when a lady came and told me she is Jeremy’s sister.
After giving her a warmth welcome, she further told me that she had heard about everything her brother did to me and was appealing for forgiveness on his behalf”, I uttered.
“Did you agree to forgive him?”, she asked.
“That is where the bone of contention is. I don’t wanna forgive that son of the bitch”, I remarked.
“But then, I sense that your spirit is willing to forgive. On the contrary the flesh is not”, she chipped in.
I couldn’t say anything for about five minutes.
“Yes you are right, but I think I should forgive him”, I said.
Evelyn was definitely not happy with my response. It was written all over her facial expressions that she was angry.
“Nope bestie, am definitely disappointed in you. I don’t believe that you will not act judiciously in this rape case concerning you and Jeremy”, she bawled.
“I don’t really understand what you are saying”, I responded.
“You must take Jeremy to face justice. He must surely pay for his sins. How can a man plot rape against you and you wanna let him go scott free?”, she asked angrily.
“See bestie, even the bible urged us to forgive one another. Our Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross of Calvary for our sins, so that we may be redeemed from sin and have eternal life”, I replied.
“I didn’t believe you will be so selfish to let him go. All the same, I can’t go against your will and desire. You can go ahead and do whatever you wish to do”, she remarked and was about leaving.
I stopped her from going and persuaded her to accompany me to the police station.
She didn’t wanna go with me, it was a tug of war before she finally accepted to go with me.
We got a cab and arrived at the police station in just a few minutes time.
When we get there, I saw a middle aged woman having a conversation with the policeman in charged of the cell.
I was about to walk pass, before the policeman navigated me to stop. I stopped immediately and listened for what next he was going to say.
“Good day ma’am, here is a relative of one of the culprits who is involved in your rape case”, the policeman said.
“Okay sir, welcome ma’am. How can I be of help to you please?”, I inquired.
She held my hand and took me to a room for visitors and began to tell me about herself.
“Sorry darling for stressing you. I heard that my cousin Evans your boyfriend’s best friend raped you because he was paid by your college crush to do so”, she elucidated.
I nodded.
“Yes ma’am, that was what your cousin did to me. He made my boyfriend break up with me”, I responded.
“It is such a pity dear. Don’t worry about that, your boyfriend will surely come back to you at the right time”, she consoled.
“I have heard you”, I said.
“Please I want to plead with you to look down on whatsoever they have done to you and grant them release”, she said gently.
I told her never to worry about that. Also, I told her that I will persuade the police to release them by tomorrow.
She was extremely happy with me when I said that.
After which I went to see the divisional officer and tell him to grant them release.
He promised to release them the following day, and I was extremely happy with myself, even my spirit was at rest.
