“Sir please. Any job goes. Please I need to be slotted in.” I pleaded with the owner of the meat processing factory.
“Employing people like you these days are hard. Someone came in this manner and at the end stolen several cartons of processed meat.” He said.
” Sir please don’t judge everyone by a person mistake. I am not like that, I can tell you where I stay. If anything happens, you can call the cops on me. I am new here, so I don’t know an escape route.” I said trying to change his perspective about me.
For some while be stared at me thinking. I watched his mouth not wanting it to curve Into a “no”. If not I would have to go back on the streets to search for more jobs.
“The only thing you can do to help is, you load the truck with cartons of meats. Sometimes you follow the truck to the site to be delivered and help carry the goods off the truck.” He said and I sighed.
At least he is giving me hope.
“You mean loading and offloading?” I asked and he nodded.
” I am fine with that Sir. Thank you so much, you won’t regret having me as a worker.” I said happily.
“I pray so.” He replied smiling. I wanted to ask him for the pay but I didn’t want to be too forward, that alone could disqualify me.
I hope he talks about it.
“And for the payment, you would be paid at the end of every week. And that will be 50$ every week.” He said.
” 50$? When do I resume, and when do I get off?” I asked.
” You resume 6am, and end at 10pm.” He said and I sighed heavily.
” 50$ for these?” I thought. But do I really have a choice?
“I am in sir.” I said and he smiled.
“That’s good. You can start when you are ready.” He said and I smiled.
” I will start tomorrow.” I said standing up.
” You need to see around before you come, so as to get familiar with the place.” He said and I nodded.
” Of course I will.” I said and he smiled.
I walked out of his office and began to walk into the deeper part of the factory. At my right hand, I saw some men cutting meats, some where throwing them into the deep freezers.
They had their hands covered with thick glows and thick overall.
That place would be damn cold. Thank God I wasn’t put there, I won’t last three hours.
I kept walking until I got to the back which was the garage. I saw the vans packed and they were getting filled with cartons of meat by some men.
I stared at then watching how they did it.
“Hey.” A guy said walking up to me.
“Hi.” I replied smiling.
“You’re new here?” He asked and I nodded.
” Yes I am. Just came to check out some stuffs before heading home.” I said as he nodded.
” I meant new in Los Angeles.” He said and I smiled.
” Oh that yes to that too.” I replied and he laughed.
” Comw, let me saw you something.” He said and began to walk away. I followed behind him looking around the garage.
“Catch!” I heard him say. I looked up and I saw a carton coming towards me. I quickly stretched forth my hand and received it. It almost weighed me down but I kept my stand.
“Wow, it’s quite heavy.” I said and he smiled walking back to me.
“You need to get used to that. Catching it from a far distance. From the room to the van.” He said pointing to the room that was at the back of the van.
“Sure. I would get used to it.” I said and he smiled.
He collected it from me and then threw it to another man. Who caught it and placed it in the van.
“Are you the head in this section?” I asked and he smiled.
” No I ain’t. He is in the room.” He said and I nodded nervously.
” You want to see him now?” He asked and I shook head.
” No, not at all. I will see him tomorrow.” I said and he nodded.
” He is kinda weird, but you would get used to him too.
Everything here involves getting used to them.” He said and I laughed.
” That’s kinda fair.” I replied.
“Teo.” He said stretching forth his hand to me.
“Danny.” I replied accepting his hand shake.
” Danny? Danny? I have heard of that name before.” He said and my eyes widened.
” Many people bears Danny.” I replied quickly and he nodded smiling
“Of course. He is known as one of the richest men in Italy. Though I don’t know much about him, I heardly listen to the news because of this job.” He said and we began to walk back to the front of the factory.
I had no reply to give him so I kept mute looking around.
“Do where do you live?” He asked looking away.
” Two blocks away from here.” I replied and he smiled.
” That’s fair enough.” He said and I nodded.
” Are you like this to everyone?” I asked and he laughed.
” Yeah. Don’t worry you would get used to it.” He said and I laughed.
” Fair enough.” I replied and we both laughed.
” You have a nice personality. You know why?” He asked and I shook my head.
” Why?” I asked.
“Cos anyone I meet like this always think I am psycho.” He said and I bursted into laughter again.
“Well you are my taste.” I said and he furrowed his brows.
” No no, I am not gay.” I added quickly and he laughed.
” I wasn’t think that”.” He said and I sighed.
“Well many people think that.” I said remembering Italy again.
” Why? Aren’t you married?” He asked and I shook my head.
” Fiancee?” He asked and I shook my head.
” Girlfriend?” He asked and it was the same.
” Now I beginning to suspect you.” He said and I bursted into laughter.
” Not everyone must have one right?” I asked and he sighed.
” Not everyone one, but an handsome dude like you ? I doubt it.” He said and I smiled.

” That doesn’t actually matter to some girls.” He said and I sighed.
” Right. I think you should go back to the factory before the boss sees you. He seems like a very disciplined one.” I said as we stopped walking.
” Okay. See you tomorrow.” He said and I smiled.
” Thanks Teo for the walk.” I said and he smiled running back. I smiled and headed back to the house.
I finally made a friend of the same category with me. This is really getting to make sense.
