I married Ifeoma without any iota of love for her. Because it was a one night stand that resulted in the pregnancy. And that was how I ended up getting married to Ifeoma.
And today, I have four children but nothing has changed. As I still had no feeling for her. And I am still into my premicouse lifestyle. Because I wasn’t married to a woman I love. And I didn’t enjoy my youthful age to the fullest before the marriage..’, Bright explained.
‘Martha is a good lady. She is a complete wife material. But the truth is that I don’t think I am mentally ready for marriage now,’ he paused. ‘Even, I have wanted to force it..I have wanted to go ahead with the marriage out of pity, so that it will not be as if I am ingrate, but the big problem is that my people are against the idea of me getting married from the north. None of them are in support of it. They said that as a first son, I have to come home and marry. So that’s the major problem..’, KC explained.
They continued to enjoy themselves while engaging in the discussion.
That day, Some of KC’s friends advised him to go ahead to marry Martha whether his people like it or not. After all, he was the person going to live with her, not his family members.
But Bright advised him not to go against his people. That what an elder sees while sitting, a little child will not see it even if he climbs an iroko tree. He strongly admonished KC never to marry a woman out of pity.
Indeed, mood swings in pregnancy can leave you with all the feelings – but the red-hot anger may seem the most surprising.
That was exactly what KC was passing through in Martha’s hand. But Martha’s own was very extreme. As if she was using the pregnancy to punish KC. She even became violent to him. To the extent she now hits and slaps KC like a child.
At any slightest mistake, Martha would start barking at KC like a mad dog. Everything about KC irritated Martha so much. At times, she even slaps him. And KC would swallow the anger.
In fact, Martha was frustrating hell out KC in his house. To the extent that his home became a nightmare for him.
On a fateful day, KC came back very late. On getting home, he had to spend more than an hour knocking on the door. It was not as if Martha wasn’t at home or wasn’t hearing his knock but she purposely left him stranded outside.
Martha finally came to open the door when KC angrily resulted in violence. In fact, that night, he wanted to pull down the door. As he used a very big stone to hit on the door.
As Martha opened the door, she landed a dirty slap on him as a welcome package.
‘Are you mád or what? Why on earth would you be coming back home this late and resorting to disturbing the peace of this house?..,’ she was yelling, leaving him stranded at the door.
KC nearly lost his temper on Martha that night. As he vibrated angrily. But he managed to hold himself back. He didn’t even say a word to her. As he waited for her to finish yelling and go inside before he headed inside as well.
KC was coming back from an emergency business trip to Ibadan. He went for a supply. The call came very late in the night. And he cannot afford to miss out on the opportunity. So he left Lagos to Ibadan very late. Meanwhile, he had been calling Martha’s phone to inform her of his movement but she didn’t pick up her calls.
KC sat down in the sitting room gnashing his teeth in anger amid strong endurance. He avoided the bedroom because of Martha. As she was lying down in the bedroom barking like a mad dog.
KC actually came home empty stomach. As he hasn’t eaten anything tangible since morning. He was hoping to come home and eat his favorite soup which he dropped money for in the morning.
So as KC waited for Martha to serve him food to no avail, he decided to go inside the kitchen and served himself food.
KC had dished the food and came to the parlor to eat when Martha angrily rushed into the parlor like a mad dog that escaped from the chain.
‘Since when did you start intruding into my kitchen, ehn? Why didn’t you eat over there where you are coming from…I mean why didn’t the girl you have been with since cooked for you, ehn?..,’ she barked.
KC was seriously boiling inside of him. But he managed to pull himself together. He never said a word to her.
‘I am talking and you are keeping quiet, ehn? As in, mad dog…let her be barking?..,’ she queried.
In fact, so many thoughts raced against each other in KC’s head at that moment. He thought of leaving the house that night but it was a risk going out at that odd hour. He thought of using beating to format Martha’s head so as to get rid of her madness…
Amidst these thoughts, Martha angrily landed a slap on him and lifted the plate of the soup and emptied it on his head.
KC lost it. As he couldn’t hold it anylonger. He landed a dirty slap on her. In return, Martha grabbed him and started dragging him. As if that was not enough, she planted her teeth against KC’s flesh and was grinding his flesh like a meat as if she was a vampire.
To ease himself from the pain, KC angrily pushed Martha off him.
Martha landed to the ground with full force. Unfortunately, she landed with her stomach.
Bleeding!
Kelechi had to rush her to the hospital that night.
