???? A Daughter’s Revenge EPISODE THREE:
I was literally passed out. And I found myself in paradise. A place seemed to be full of contentment. A land of luxury and fulfillment containing ever-lasting bliss. And everywhere white like snow.
โMartha! Martha!! Martha!!โ, my name echoed.
I turned and behold it was my mother. She was together with my father at the other side of the paradise.
โMotherโ, I screamed in excitement. Then surged up and ran to meet them, but on getting close to their section, I paused. It happened that there was no road to connect with them. Because there was a big endless hole that demarcated us.
โMartha my daughter, go back because itโs not yet your timeโ, my mother’s voice echoed again.
โMother please, take me with you. I am tired of going back to that w|cked world. I want to join you and father over there..โ, I pleaded amid tears.
โNo my daughter, go back to the world because you still have a lot of purpose to fulfill,โ she insisted.
โThe world is nothing without you people beside me. The world is full of crue|ty. Please take me with you. I donโt want to go back againโ, I cried.
โYou have to go back. Thatโs where you belong. For now, you don’t belong hereโ, my fatherโs voice thundered.
โMother please, save me from the w|ckedness of the worldโ.
โMy daughter, cry no more. Because no weapon that is fashioned against you shall prosper. We are with youโ.
Just then, I felt hands on my body โ the person placed his hand on my forehead and two fingers (of his other hand) underneath the tip of my chin. He then used his hand on my forehead to pinch my nose with his finger and thumb, and my mouth fell open. He took a deep breath and placed his lips around my mouth, forming a seal. Then he blew into my mouth until my chest rises.
He proceeded to kneel by me and put the heel of his hand in the middle of my chest. He added the other of his hand on top of the formal. Then he interlocked his fingers making sure they didn’t touch my ribs. He straight and leaned his hands over me. Then pressed my chest down, very hard, to the third of the depth of my chest, he then allowed it to come back up.
โMartha donโt be stubborn. Go back to the world. Thatโs the place you belong nowโ, my motherโs voice echoed amid my battle with those trying to resuscitate me back.
He continued the process until I was resuscitated. I vomited liters of water out from my mouth and nose. As I opened my eyes, I saw people gathered around me but I couldn’t count them because I was seeing double.
โWho are you people? What are you people doing to me? Where are mine? What am I doing here?,โ these were questions begging for answers in my head. But I was too weak to speak out.
Moments later, I found myself on the hospital bed. Beside me sat a strange woman. It was night.
โOh, you are awake?โ, the woman asked amid the excitement.
โWho are you? And what am I doing here?โ, I managed to ask in panic.
โI am Annatu. You are sick and thatโs why I brought you to the hospitalโ, she explained.
โHe will kill me. Please donโt allow my uncle to find me..โ I stuttered in great panic.
โDonโt worry my daughter. You are safe with me. Nothing will happen to you. Nobody is going to hurt you,โ she interrupted while patting me. โThe doctor said you needed to rest. So calm yourself down and have some rest..โ she calmed my nerves down.
After all said and done, she gave me food. I ate to my satisfaction. It was rice and stew. She prepared the food herself. It was very delicious.
I really felt free and comfortable with Aunty Annatu. She was so caring and loving. And she had this striking resemblance with my late mother.
Moments later, I dozed off to sleep.
I had a dream in my sleep. It was my mother that showed up again. She encouraged me and asked me not to panic. That I was in the safe hand. She assured me of her presence. I was happy to see her smiling face again. But at the same time, I frowned at her. I accosted her bitterly. I queried her why she and my father had to abandon me in this w|cked world and go without a goodbye. Why they left me in the crue|| hand of uncle Ishiaku and her wife to die of brutal|ty. My mother apologized and consoled me in her usual manner. She told me: โMy daughter, itโs fate. Fate is very mysterious. Fate is inevitable. Fate is unavoidable. And fate is uncontrollable. Whatever you have passed through in this life is fate. And whatever you are going to pass through in this life is fate. So accept your fate in good faith. Itโs well with you..โ
It was the following morning I woke up. I have regained my strength a little. Even before I could wake up from my slumber, she had my breakfast ready. I ate to my satisfaction. I appreciated her so much for her hospitality.
We engaged in a deep conversation. Questions upon questions we asked ourselves that morning as we waited for my discharge from the hospital.
โ..Aunty Annatu, if I may ask again, how did you find me?โ, I asked.
โMy daughter, it was fate..โ
โFate?โ, I paused, staring at her in a surprised and confused state of mind. โWho exactly are you?โ, I had to ask in atmost surprise. Because Aunty Annatu doesnโt just look like my mother alone; she was a replica of her in everything. ‘Fate’. The same word my mother used for me in the dream. That same word just came out from aunty Annatu’s mouth.
โNot again Martha. How many times do you want me to explain myself to you?โ, she said amid surprise.
I hissed: โ Aunty Annatu, I am just confused here..,โ I said, shaking my head worriedly.
โConfused about what?โ, Annatu asked in curiosity.
โEverything about youโ.
โHow?โ.
โAunty, tell me the truth, are you human or a spirit? Are you my mother or kind of guardenangle?โ, I had to ask, pointing at her.
โStop being delusional. I am not your mother. I am who I told you I am, ehn?’, she explained.
